86 Preservation and Development on the Givat Ram Campus
The Safra Campus of the Hebrew University on Givat Ram is an open-air museum that features Israeli architecture, in general, and Jerusalem architecture, in particular. It exemplifies typical construction styles from the 1950s and up to the present. The design and establishment of the campus involved some of the best architects, landscape architects, interior architects and engineers in the country. During these 90-minute tours with the architect Avigail Ben Simhon from the Jerusalem Municipality’s Building Preservation Department, she will talk about the original design of the campus, the special buildings it contains and the open spaces. She will also raise some of the issues pertaining to preservation vs. development that have existed over the years, coupled with plans for the future.
