27 Restoring the Historical Space in Musrara

The Musrara neighborhood was established at the end of the 19^th century by upper-class Arabs, who like other communities sought to leave the confines of the Old City and take up residence outside the walls (similar to what occurred in Jewish Mishkenot Sha’ananim). These tours will be led by architect Sharon Dinur, who heads the Preservation Department at the Jerusalem Municipality. Apart from putting a spotlight on a few unique buildings in the eastern section of Musrara that have been designated historical landmarks, she will also recount the history of the neighborhood, point out architectural elements that are characteristic of it, and review the city’s future restoration approach that is being implemented there. The two-hour tours, which include entering some of the buildings, will end at the meeting point.
