127 A Carillon Bell Concert at the YMCA

A carillon – a percussion instrument made of bronze bells – is installed on the top of the YMCA tower. This particular variety consists of 36 bells. Spanning three octaves, the largest bell weighs 1.5 tons, and the smallest one 8 kilograms. The music is produced using a large keyboard that is situated one floor below the carillon. The keys are connected to the bells’ clappers by means of cables.

Come and hear the carillonneur Prof. Gaby Shefler, who will be giving two concerts. During them, he will play his carillon arrangements for Israeli and international songs, as well as short classical music selections (Friday). Additional concerts will be given by Attorney Fadi Suidan, the

YMCA’s CEO, who is also a carillonneur. Besides playing the carillon, he will explain the workings of the instrument (Thursday evenings).
