Special and first-time visits at the reconstruction and restoration project of the elegant Tiferet Israel synagogue. One of the main synagogues in the Jewish Quarter, it was built in 1872 and later destroyed by the Jordanian Legion in 1948. The project is defined as a national project that follows a decision of the Israeli government.

The tours will be led by the architect Carlos Prus, who will present in detail the complexities of the reconstruction project currently underway.

The reconstruction works of the building have lasted many long years, and have included special stone works and the restoration of the wall and ceiling frescoes that decorated the interior spaces of the structure. Archaeological excavations were also carried out as part of the reconstruction, which uncovered remains from the First Temple period, the Second Temple period, and the Herodian, Byzantine and Mamluk periods – up to the end of the 19^th century. During the tours, Prus will describe the challenges posed by this unusual project. They necessitated intricate logistics due to the terrain and the limited access available for delivering equipment and construction materials to the narrow alleyways in the Old City.

Please note that entering the construction site is conditional on wearing closed-backed and flat shoes (sneakers or walking shoes).

It is strictly prohibited to enter the site while wearing sandals, open-backed shoes, or heels.

Any participants who arrive at the site wearing open-backed shoes will not be allowed to enter the compound.
