122 Making the City

A social-historical tour of the old Shaare Zedek building, which will trace how it evolved from being the second Jewish hospital built outside the Old City Walls, founded in the early 20th century, to its present use by The Social Space. During the tour, participants will hear the story of Dr. Moshe Wallach, the nurse Selma Mayer, and the modern hospital they established. The 75-minute tour will include sessions with artists, creators and social entrepreneurs who currently work in the building. The encounter between past and present raises questions about who makes a city, and if it is possible to revitalize the importance of historical buildings in a city.
Exhibitions that are part of the Jerusalem Biennale – De Profundis – are currently on display in the building.
