28 Nachlaot as Portrayed in the Press of the Period

Meeting point: the corner of Agrippas St. and Shomron St.

This tour will be led by Shahar Poni, formerly an architect at the Israel Antiquities Authority and currently a restoration consultant to the Jerusalem Municipality’s Building Preservation Department. The 90-minute tour will trace the founding of the first neighborhoods that comprised Nachlaot at the end of the 19th century, as reported in the press of the period. Nachlaot’s first neighborhoods were concentrated between the present-day Agrippas Street and Bezalel Street. They were built in a courtyard neighborhood format that was characteristic of Jewish construction in those days, which corresponded to the way of life of the local community.
