117 From Nachlaot to Machneyuda
A tour led by the guide, Cila Gera, that will recount the story of the Nachlaots, which are among the most colorful neighborhoods in Jerusalem – starting with their establishment and up to their transformation into the vibrant neighborhood which they are today.
Nachlaot, whose construction began about 150 years ago, is actually comprised of 32 different neighborhoods – including secular, ultra-Orthodox and Chassidic ones – that were built one after another outside the Old City walls.
The three-hour tour will leave from Valero Square, with the first stop being the Zoharei Chama sundial. From there it will continue to the Dead Groom’s House, Alliance House, the Father of the Prisoners House, and other sites. Gera will also talk about the famous people who lived in the neighborhood, including Yitzhak Navon, the fifth President of Israel, and the Banai clan.
