116 From the YMCA to Nahalat Shiva
A tour led by the guide, Cila Gera, that will recount the story of this small area, where figures such as King Herod, Adugdi el-Kabkabi, Tzuf Davash and others left their mark. Some of Jerusalem’s most stately buildings are also be found on this tract of land, including the YMCA building, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, and a cluster of historical sites – among them a cemetery from the Mamluk period, a water pool dating back 2,000 years, and the second Jewish neighborhood built outside the Old City walls.
During the three-hour tour, Gera will talk about the history, the people and the interests behind the buildings and the sites that are located between the YMCA tower and the Nahalat Shiva neighborhood.
