26 Modernism and the Colony
The architect Sharon Dinur, who heads the Preservation Department at the Jerusalem Municipality, leads these tours of modernist buildings in the German Colony and Talbieh that have been designated historical landmarks. She will talk about the architects who designed them and the aesthetic and functional ideals that are clearly visible in the buildings, which exemplify the idea that there is ‘beauty in simplicity.’ During the two-hour tours, Dinur will point out how the buildings have blended into the historical urban fabric of the neighborhoods, while also discussing the future planning trends for the neighborhoods as a whole, and the buildings, in particular.
