108 Behind the Scenes at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center

Meeting point: 12 Shmuel Beyth St., 4th floor lobby next to the main entrance

A rare opportunity to tour sections of this medical center founded over 120 years ago, which are normally closed to the public. Participants will become acquainted with the complex logistical systems that are needed to operate it: the heating/cooling facility that regulates the hospital’s air conditioning and water systems, the central sterile processing department where sterilized instruments are prepared for the 40,000 surgical procedures performed annually, the pharmacy storerooms and robot, the automated lab test system, and the emergency preparedness system that is in place for unconventional terrorist attacks.

The 90-minute tours will be led by Gadi Ilan, the director of the Logistics and Engineering Division. They will begin with a presentation about the hospital’s glorious past, followed by an overview of the future plans for the medical center’s continued development.

Paid parking is available at the entrance to Shaare Zedek. Free parking is available in a lot near the hospital, at the entrance leading to Beitar Field.
