66 The Bear Den

Designing living spaces and habitats for animals necessitates an in-depth understanding of diverse elements specific to each type of animal, such as the size of the living space they require and how it conforms to their natural environments, their character, their life cycle, etc.

These special tours will be led by Nili Avni-Magen, the Biblical Zoo’s Zoological Director and Chief Veterinarian, and Ranit Rosenthal, the landscape architect who has accompanied the project. They will describe the dramatic change that has been spearheaded by the Biblical Zoo in the past two years with regard to the Syrian brown bear exhibit.

The upgrade of the exhibit stems from the planned arrival of a couple of Syrian brown bears for reproduction and conservation purposes. Because this species is facing extinction, the exhibit will also offer an educational and innovative visitor experience. The tours will present the revised plan for the exhibit, whose aim is to facilitate new living spaces adapted to the animal. Visitors will enjoy a unique perspective as well as a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the bear den.

Tour participants must be at least 15 years old, and all participants must sign up in advance.
