107 The Gate to Health
Architects: Farrow Partners in collaboration with Rubinstein-Ofer Architects; Landscape architecture: Kav BaNof, 2022
Hourlong tours with the architects at the Helmsley Cancer Center, which was dedicated about two years ago at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center. It is a state-of-the-art facility that extends across an area of roughly 12,000 m2, consisting of six floors furnished with the most advanced equipment in the world. The design of the building, which stands out against the landscape, was inspired by butterflies. Made of wood, the building was designed in a way that brings natural light even into its underground spaces. And it has won numerous international prizes for its unique design.
Led by the architect, Shai Ofer, and the landscape architect, Zvi Kanonich, the tours will talk about the architectural concept underlying the building and the steps that were taken to deal with the intricate blueprint and the systems incorporated in the structure. The architects will also describe the attempt that was made to create a healthy and healing medical center that relies on natural materials and qualities, including a healing garden (in line salutogenic principles).
Paid parking is available at the entrance to Shaare Zedek. Free parking is available in a lot near the hospital, at the entrance leading to Beitar Field.
