How did Talpiot’s old industrial zone turn into one of the most impressive street galleries in the country? These tours, led by the linguist and art researcher Smadar Barak, will take participants to the carpentry shops and shopping malls in the neighborhood. In recent years – mostly due to a project initiated by the Jerusalem Municipality – they have become a platform for graffiti and other works of art by artists from Israel and around the world. During the two-hour tours, Barak will discuss how Talpiot has developed, will point out how the massive concrete structures that have become canvases, and will reveal the stories behind the monumental outdoor murals.
