111 Revitalizing New Gate Street

Meeting point: the plaza outside New Gate, The Old City

Architects: Michael Schwartz & Associates, 2019

A tour of New Gate Street, which is the gateway to the Old City via the Christian Quarter. It is called New Gate because it was the last gate to be breached in Jerusalem’s walls (in 1889 by the Ottomans). The tour will deal with the restoration and upgrade of the street’s urban design, which for many years suffered from neglect. Its revitalization created an urban recreational space on the seam between East and West Jerusalem.

The 40-minute tour will be led by the architect Nimrod Eitan, a partner at Michael Schwartz & Associates.
