87 The Old YMCA Swimming Pool
Original architect: Arthur Loomis Harmon, 1932; Building renovation architects: Spector Amisar Architects; Restoration architect: Shaya Roth; a project in progress
A chance to see the section of the YMCA where the old swimming pool is located, which is no longer in use and is not accessible to the public. And this, right before its renovation works commence and it is converted into a hydrotherapy pool. During the hourlong tour, the architect, Yael Spector, and the restoration architect, Shaya Roth, will discuss the architectural qualities of the space, the natural lighting, the original elements made of bronze that are incorporated in the pool, and the magnificent mosaic tiles. They will also talk about the work done by the original architect, Arthur Loomis Harmon, and the sources of inspiration for the YMCA building’s design, which has become one of the symbols of the city of Jerusalem.
