041 A Yard House

A visit at this beautiful residence that exemplifies a modern intervention in a historical building. It originally consisted of two small homes typical of the Yemin Moshe neighborhood, which was founded at the end of the 19^th century on land that Moses Montefiore purchased for building a Jewish neighborhood outside the Old City walls. There was a cistern under the yard that was used by the people who lived in the vicinity. When designing the new house, the original structures were preserved. They were joined by a stairwell that connects them, as well as the yard that became a kind of covered patio that is used to entertain guests. During the tours, participants will also see how modern technologies can be integrated into very old buildings.
