97 Oxford in Jerusalem

Saint George’s Cathedral is located on Nablus Road (Derech Shechem), north of the Old City. It is an unusual compound in the Jerusalem landscape, decorated in a neo-Gothic style as if taken from one of the picturesque university campuses in England. The tours will be led by Eviatar Nevo, a licensed tour guide who researches the British Mandate period. He will recount the story behind the cathedral, which was built in 1898 as a center for an English missionary society. He will unveil what the compound was used for during World War I, and how – following the British Empire’s victory – it became the spiritual center of the British community living in Jerusalem.

The 90-minute tours will end at the meeting point.
