Original designer: the engineer, Theodor Sandel, 1902; Restoration architects: Solar Architects
A tour with the restoration architect Giora Solar, who is in charge of restoring this historic building that used to be Shaare Zedek Hospital and later housed the offices and studios of the Israel Broadcasting Authority in Jerusalem. The tour will include explanations about the history of the building, its importance, and its function and role in Jerusalem in the early 20th century. Participants will also be shown the planned restoration works as well as the plans for converting the building into a boutique hotel.
The building, which until 1980 housed Shaare Zedek Hospital and after that the offices of the Israel Broadcasting Authority, is now home to the nonprofit organization “New Spirit Jerusalem” – an art, culture and entrepreneurship center that serves dozens of musicians, designers, video and sound creators, startups, social and community initiatives and creative businesses. At the same time, the organization preserves the values of innovativeness, sustainability and communality which characterized the activities that took place in the building in the last 120 years. An art exhibition, which is part of the Jerusalem Biennale, is currently on display in the building.
