050 A Studio of Your Own at the Home of the Painter Litvinovsky

An opportunity to become acquainted with the Studio of Her Own project and the home of the late painter, Pinchas Litvinovsky, located on the border of the Talbieh and Old Katamon neighborhoods, out of which the project now operates. The house was built at the beginning of the 20th century for a Christian Arab family by the name of Salman, whose second floor was rented out to the Assistant British Commissioner. In 1948, following the War of Independence, the ownership of the house was transferred to the Jerusalem Municipality, which allowed the painter Pinchas Litvinovsky to live there. Litvinovsky, a recipient of Jerusalem’s Distinguished Citizen Award (1970) and the Israel Prize (1980), lived in the house until his death in 1984. The house, including all of its contents, remained untouched for 40 years until the beginning of 2020, when young female artists began working there. They founded A Studio of Her Own – the first center for women’s art in Israel.

The exhibition “Autonomous” is currently on display at the center.

The 12:30 tour on Friday will include a gallery talk with Meital Manor, the curator of the exhibition, and Tseela Greenberg, one of the artists whose works are on display in the exhibition.
