094 A Journey to Katamon in the Days of the British Mandate

Meeting place: the entrance to Misgav Ladach Hospital, 27 Hizkiyahu HaMelech St.

Gideon Shilo, a tour guide who translated the diaries of Khalil Al-Sakakini – a Palestinian educator and intellectual who lived in the Katamon neighborhood in the 1930’s – leads this 90-minute tour. He will describe Katamon as it was during the British Mandate period and the way of life in the neighborhood, which was populated by people of different nationalities. He will also point out different types and styles of buildings that were built there. The tour will focus on the vicinity of Yordei Hasira Street and highlight the current restoration of some of the buildings in the neighborhood.
