The compound, which extends across an area of about 17 acres in downtown Jerusalem, is home to some of the most well-known sites and structures in the city. This tour with Itzik Shviki, the Jerusalem District Director at the Council for the Preservation of Heritage Sites, will point out the historic landmarks in the compound, including the cathedral, gates, men’s hostel, Avihayil Hospital and Sergei’s Courtyard. Shviki will also talk about what role they played in anchoring the Russian presence in Jerusalem in the 19th century.
