037 Graffiti in Jerusalem

Meeting place: Davidka Square; the corner of Jaffa Rd. and Kol Israel Haverim St.

A tour led by Grafitiyul, which offers a backstage look at the graffiti scene in Jerusalem. That scene has generated global interest thanks to the fact that Jewish, Muslim and Christian graffiti artists create alongside one another. During the 90-minute tour, which will observe the graffiti works from the activist perspective of their creators, participants will learn which graffiti works have been erased and why, and which ones have survived for over 20 years and why. They will also learn how graffiti artists create their works on Jerusalem stone facades, and will hear what happened to a famous graffiti artist who was caught by the police while spraying paint on a wall on a main thoroughfare in the city.
