018 The Wohl Rose Park

Meeting place: the eastern entrance to the Rose Park when coming from Rothschild St., on the concourse next to the parking lot

A partially handicap accessible circle walking tour of this garden, which was established in the 1950’s for the purpose of holding official ceremonies there. Also known as the President’s Garden, it was designed by the landscape architect, Meir Viktor. In the 1980’s, the garden was enlarged and upgraded by the landscape planning firm Tichnun Nof Ltd., (now called Minadd), headed by the landscape architect, Yosef Segal. Thousands of new rose bushes were planted, making it the largest botanical rose garden in Israel.

The park was revamped in the last two years in order to convert it into an open public space and to restore its days of glory as a botanical garden. The works included renewal of the mobility and vegetation systems and replacement of the furniture. Additionally, a café and educational center are scheduled to be opened in the near future.

Led by the landscape architect Shlomi Zeevy from Minadd, the firm in charge of revamping the park, the tour will talk about the different sections of the park, while highlighting how the new design blends in with the old one. The tour will start and end at the entrance to the park on Rothschild Street.
