Architects: Yoma Architects; a project nearing completion
Two guided tours led by the architects who designed this Tama 38 project, whose construction is nearing completion. (Tama 38 – a nationwide urban renewal initiative that encourages residents of old apartment buildings to earthquake proof them in compliance with new building codes). It is situated on the corner of Ben Maimon Boulevard and Azza Street, across from the Prime Minister’s Residence. The project includes the restoration of a 2-story modernist apartment building from the 1930’s, which was originally designed as a “ship house” typical of the International Style. As part of Tama 38, three more stories were added to the building. During the tours, the architects will talk about the present-day design that preserves certain features of the original façade, while incorporating metal lattice panels, raw concrete and new stone materials, as well as the works that were carried out to restore and reinforce the structure. The tours will also include a look at one of the new apartments.
