060 Schatz House

3 Bezalel St.

Architect: unknown, 1908-1915

A glimpse of the compound where members of the Schatz family lived and worked in the 20th century. It was located next to the Bezalel School of Arts and Crafts, which was founded by the head of the family, Prof. Boris Schatz. Besides Boris Schatz, the compound was home to his wife, Olga Pavzner, his son Bezalel and daughter-in-law Louise, and his daughter Zahara (who later received the Israel Prize for art).

The tours, led by Jimmy Levinson who is a scion of the family and the executor of the estate, will include a brief explanation about the compound, a tour of the house, and a look at some of the works created by the family.

The Jerusalem Biennale – which overlaps with Open House Weekend and whose title this year is “Four Cubits” – features group exhibitions and events that seek to examine how art functions in private spaces. Works by Ossi Yalon, Debbie Margalit and Porat Salomon will also be on display at Schatz House.
